With age comes wisdom, but unfortunately age comes with some downsides too. Naturally occurring reductions in muscle strength and bone density often occur as adults get older, and can lead to difficulty performing daily tasks and making accidents costlier.
However, there is a plethora of information suggesting that many of the physical declines that come with ageing can be prevented and even to some degree reversed with properly designed resistance training.
A position stand from the NSCA last year concluded that not only is properly designed resistance training safe for older adults, but that it can improve strength, mobility, performance in daily activities, resistance to injuries and help preserve independence into later years.
At LIFT we’ve already seen all of these benefits and more in our older members, many of whom train 2-3 times per week with us and consistently report better quality of life as a result.
